“I love to connect with artists and audiences to understand each others’ truths and to be able to express that energy through imaginative, musical ways. Through my art and artistic practice I strive to be free, fulfilled and whole, and I hope that my work and collaborations with other artists will lead to all of our collective liberation.”
          - Teiya Kasahara

An immersive re-imagination of the historic Britannia Shipyards in Steveston, confluence will traverse time, culture, and languages in order to dream about different futures and explore the many “what-ifs” through music. The unique land at the mouth of the Fraser River (where it meets the Pacific Ocean), the traditional lands of the Musqueam people, has hosted Chinese, Japanese, and white settlers; all exploring the “three f’s” of BC industry - fishing, farming, and forestry. Through their curation, Kasahara asks: “What if colonization didn’t happen the way it did? What if there was a sustainable and harmonious way for immigrants and white settlers to have lived among the Musqueam, and thrived together without hurting each other, the water or land?” This interdisciplinary activation of the open-air museum and historic buildings of the Britannia Shipyards will introduce new perspectives and share old stories through place-based creation, honouring the generations who have called this land home.

confluence will feature a new commission by Leslie Uyeda, as well as performances by Kasahara alongside the singers of musica intima.

YOUR SUPPORT IS OUR LIFEBLOOD

musica intima exists to create incredible moments—to share the power of music with our audiences, and invite them into our circle of sound. Your financial support of the ensemble’s professional performance, touring, recording, and community outreach initiatives remains invaluable.

As with most not-for-profit arts organizations, ticket revenue only accounts for a small portion of our total budget. If you have been touched by musica intima’s performances, please consider a tax-deductible gift to the musica intima society. Your continued support of one of Canada’s musical gems is vital, allowing us to continue presenting world-class performances at home and abroad, and supporting generations of professional musicians.
