Vancouver New Music Festival 2014
Sonic Topographies
Sound, music, and sustainability
October 16 – 19, 2014

Composers and sound artists all over the world are turning their ears to the music of the earth and its people to reconsider what artistic creation means in a context that fosters sustainable ideas about creativity, culture, and tradition. The festival showcases composers, musicians and sound artists who are fostering new, sound-based explorations of ideas that emerge from natural, interlocking cycles and alternative systems of thought.

» Friday, January 31, 2014 - 7:30pm

Small towns are known for their community spirit, and Rosthern is no exception. When the town's old CN Railway Depot closed, a group of dedicated community organizers decided to renovate the building and turn it into a local cultural centre. Today you can enjoy the fruits of their labour, when you visit the Station Arts Centre.
The Centre was renovated to preserve the original architecture, particularly the mansard roof. Mansard roofing is distinctive because its windows are fitted right into the roof. The Station Arts Centre is one of the few examples of mansard roofing left in Saskatchewan.

"It is believed that Claudio Monteverdi wrote most of his operas and sacred choral music for singers of great virtuosity. If this is so, it is difficult to imagine that he had at his command singers any more virtuosic than the 12 members of the Vancouver-based and conductorless choral ensemble known as musica intima.”
