solicitude: music to shine in the darkest winter

DECEMBER 14, 2024 | 7:30 PM
KITSILANO NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE
2305 W. 7th AVE., VANCOUVER

“When you ask how old a person is in the Northern StÌ“átÌ“imcets language you would ask “kÌ“winaszánucw máqa7” or “how many snows are you?” Winters can be harsh and our lives are measured by how many winters one survives.”
     - Russell Wallace

Solicitude will feature the music and voice of Lil'wat composer and singer Russell Wallace as together we explore what winter means to him through his Indigenous musical traditions and perspectives, paired with music that reflects the season from our own and different cultural traditions by Reena Esmail, Saunder Choi, Shireen Abu-Khader. Join us in the warm and welcoming acoustic of Kits Neighbourhood House, a de-commissioned church.

“Snow is cold and covers everything and dampens the sounds around us but it also reflects light. It does not take much light to illuminate a large area. Today, we may feel the darkness as winter represents the end of a cycle but it also blankets and gives some rest to the earth and life around it. It also forces us to rely on each other. Let us light up that snow and provide warmth and company to each other so we may all survive another winter."  - Russell Wallace

solicitude will also be presented in Sechelt, on December 8, 2024, and in Surrey on December 13, 2024.  Tickets for Sechelt and Surrey are available through the Coast Recital Society and the Surrey Arts Centre.

As with most not-for-profit arts organizations, ticket revenue only accounts for a small portion of our total budget. If you have been touched by musica intima’s performances, please consider a tax-deductible gift to the musica intima society. Your continued support of one of Canada’s musical gems is vital, allowing us to continue presenting world-class performances at home and abroad, and supporting generations of professional musicians.
